Madavi the YES company, on the program “Emprende” of TVE

On the 4th of February , Fernando Iglesias, CEO of Madavi, visited the studio of the program “Emprende” on the 24h Channel of TVE, to be interviewed by the director and presenter of the program Juanma Romero.

Juanma Romero focused the interview on what we know how to do best in Madavi, the YES company: the management of companies from a positive view point. “It is not a question of looking for weaknesses or mistakes but rather strengths”, the presenter explained in his introduction.

Below we reproduce the best of the interview:

What does Madavi do that other companies in the sector do not do?

We make change happen, we generate movement, but what we do is different: we change the way in which you change. We basically change two paradigms: scarcity for abundance and sequentiality for simultaneity.

What should we be understanding with those two words, abundance and simultaneity?

Imagine a group of women refugees in New York – they do not speak the language – and they are thinking about what they know how to do … Then one of our tribe, one of the appreciative ones, asks them: tell me something that you feel proud of. And we discovered that all of them knew how to cook something really special. If all these women had this ability, what will you not have, all of you that work here and in all companies. This is the difference from seeing things form a scarcity view-point compared to abundance.

 Is that why Madavi is the YES company? 

Well tell me what you YES have and what you YES want. All the world says the opposite. “Where are you going with want you do not have”.

And why always positively?

More than positively, in reality it is appreciatively. To appreciate means that you always look for the best in any circumstance. Things happen that you do not like, but why not look for the best of what is.

Does that mean we cannot reprimand someone if we think they deserve it?

Yes, you can, but if you start to function in the way that we are talking about perhaps the number of reprimands that you need to make per year would stand out by their very absence.

How is the world of management in the RRHH changing? Or in the world of people because now it is not to well seen to talk about Human Resources…

They are doing it well, but in reality, what they do is to align business and culture, which is what we do. Otherwise what sense has this all have.

And how is the change occurring?

I am beginning to see many people entering RRHH who before were in sales, production or other departments. I think it is a good way to align business and culture.

One has the impression that companies each day are more humane, although there is more talk of robots, why is this happening?

 At the end of the day what you have to get things done are the people. Instead of treating them likes resources give them the best conditions to work in … For example, Madavi means “springtime”.  We believe more in the people who are there than perhaps they do themselves, and we simply add water, warmth and nutrients and everything grows. It is not a question of pushing it is question of generating conditions.

It seems that in the majority of cases the profitability of the Company has a relation with the way the workers are treated?

It is not so much how you treat them but to really rely on them. When we talk about simultaneity what we are doing is to include everyone that is and to align all the strengths towards the aspirations in the sense of the opportunities. That is when you know what your importance is.

When did Madavi start to function?

We have been  five years in this project which I think is tremendously innovative, and actually we have a tremendous number of clients and we are about to take off.

How do clients contact you? By word of mouth or by reputation?

Now, that is true. As the results are exceptional, they have started to call us. Logically in the beginning it was not so. At the beginning you have to explain your project, go and sell it, bravely and just do it. Because the truth is that you learn by doing.

When you go to a Company and they speak of the fear that they have of robots, what do you tell them?

I say to them: Tell me a moment when the technology grew, and everybody has a story. We are always frightened of the unknown, and we forget that much of what we do today has a lot to do with machines. In reality they allow us to grow.
